Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games – BBC Sport and Sunset+Vine
The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games was the biggest sporting event to be held in the UK since the London 2012 Olympics, and for this entry we felt it was fitting to combine the achievements of the production teams at Sunset+Vine, who produced the coverage of the event, and BBC Sport, who brought that coverage to the Nation.
The host broadcast of Birmingham 2022 was the biggest contract ever undertaken by Sunset+Vine, as well as the biggest UK production ever undertaken by a single production company. It involved the live coverage of 19 different sports over 11 days of competition, a 24/7 Games Channel and six 24/7 multi-channel feeds, employing 1500 Games-time crew.
BBC Sport provided comprehensive coverage of Birmingham 2022 on TV, Online, Radio and Sportsnews. At the heart of the offering was 200 hours of network television across BBC1, BBC2 and BBC3, including 130 on BBC1 as Birmingham 2022 took over the nation’s main channel from 9am to 11.30pm every day.
This was supported by 11 live streams across BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website ensuring that fans could enjoy uninterrupted coverage of their favourite sport.
BLAST Premier Fall Final 2021 – BLAST
After 20 months of remote and online-only esports events due to the ongoing pandemic, fans had been crying out for in-person interaction and entertainment with their favourite teams and star players.
At the end of last year, Denmark and BLAST welcomed back crowds and in-person esports arena events for the first time in two years. The result, a record 25,000 fans across three days of action packed Counter-Strike in Copenhagen’s iconic Royal Arena venue, which was broadcast all over the world.
UK-based company BLAST hosted eight of the world’s biggest esports organisations and their brightest stars to fight it out over five days of epic Counter-Strike with a combined prize pool of $425,000 on the line along with the crown of the world’s greatest CS:GO team.
he BLAST Premier Fall Final was more than a Counter-Strike spectacle for those die-hard esports fans in attendance and watching from home, it came to signify a celebration and festival of entertainment, emotion and bringing people together for a shared passion.

As part of a International Broadcasting Convention accelerator programme, the use of 5G, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence was trialled to enhance the fan experience.
In total, beIN’s linear and digital channels saw over 450 million cumulative views during the tournament.
Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 – Warner Bros. Discovery
For the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) delivered the ultimate fan-first digital experience for viewers on discovery+ – WBD’s streaming product which includes sport.
WBD’s primary objective was to drive viewership and subscriptions to discovery+ and establish it as the ‘Streaming Home of the Olympics’.
To achieve this, discovery+ delivered an unrivalled live digital content offer and was the only place to watch every unmissable moment from Beijing 2022, whenever, wherever, live and on-demand including streaming of 16 live event feeds covering every event.
discovery+ delivered around 1,200 hours of live coverage, with 56 simultaneous streams on the busiest day of the Games, going way beyond the capacity of a traditional linear broadcast, providing new ways of consuming the Games.
Launched just 18 months prior to the Games, the Olympics on discovery+ delivered record digital audience engagement for millions of fans across key markets in Denmark, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the UK and Ireland with Eurosport engaging fans across all other markets in Europe.
